I would like to take a few moments and provide everyone with an updated product road map and a brief overview of what our intentions are with the next release of Toolkit, Suite and introducing the new Chart product.

First off, lets address the new Chart product. There were some discussions early on that we would create a new product called Toolkit Premium and Suite Premium that would incorporate the Dashboard line of controls including Chart.

After some careful consideration, in fairness to our customers we have decided to build upon the existing Toolkit Pro and Suite Pro product lines instead, adding even more functionality and features to this already powerful framework was the best choice all around.

In order to accomplish this we will have to increase the price point modestly for both packages for new purchases and subscription renewals. Existing customers with current subscriptions will have full access with no additional charge.

PRODUCT ROAD MAP

September 20th, 2010
We plan to release a maintenance version 13.4.1 for Toolkit Pro and Suite Pro no later than Monday next week.

October 11th, 2010
We expect to have the new charting packing completed no later than Monday October 11th. We will continue releasing beta versions of the Chart up to the final release date. Chart will be introduced as a single package at first, but will also be made available to existing Toolkit Pro and Suite Pro customers who have an active subscription that does not expire prior to November 9th, 2010.

With this version we have added some 3D functionality, but our primary focus will be completing core 2D functionality. Here are the features you can expect with the October release:

November 8th, 2010
The new version of Toolkit Pro, Suite Pro and Chart will be called 2011 (v14.0). We expect to release this new version no later than November 8th, 2010. The new version of Toolkit Pro and Suite Pro will incorporate many new features including: A complete set of Office 2010 and Visual Studio 2010 themes for all controls. We have also added new Track and Flow Graph Controls which many of you know about. We will also be addressing many of the problem reports and feature requests that have been posted on this forum as well with this release.

Price Adjustment
If you purchase / renew your subscription for Toolkit Pro or Suite Pro now you will have full access to all of these features including Chart at no additional cost. After November 8th expect to see the cost for a single seat license of Toolkit Pro and Suite Pro to increase modestly by $100 and $25 for renewals.

Future Plans / Goals
We are fully dedicated to the development of Toolkit Pro for MFC and Suite Pro for ActiveX, adding new features and enhancements regularly. In addition to the Chart we have plans on adding a full line of Dashboard controls for Guage and Map as well. We are excited about the upcoming year and hope to increase our customer awareness and overall product satisfaction.

Feature Requests / Bug Reports
If you are concerned about us addressing outstanding feature requests or bug reports, please feel free to post a link to them or mention them in this thread.

Thanks for your time, and I hope this helps to address some of your questions and / or concerns.

Yes there will be a beta for both Toolkit Pro and Suite Pro prior to the final release date. There are already some samples for the Track Control in the current version of the Toolkit and you can see the Flow Graph included in the current Chart beta.

Kirk thank you very much for posting a roadmap and providing an update on status and plans. The long silence was very concerning. I also very much appreciate that the suite will be extended with new tools rather than having to purchase a new product and think the pricing you've set is fair.

Regarding issues to be addressed, it seems that the Syntax Edit control is a poor lonely step child that no one likes. I understand that the main developer on it left (Mark Doubson)? But I hope that doesn't mean that you've not replaced him with someone that can continue it's evolution and requests.

My main open issues (which have been open for several months without much followup or response -- why is that??) are:

SyntaxEdit
  1. Drag and Drop support. Issue #24980
  2. Word Wrap support. This has been requested by a lot of people for many years in the forum. Issue #24884
  3. Splitter support (your MFC demo shows it, but ActiveX version doesn't and all other SyntaxEdit controls I've used/played with support this). Issue #24883
Docking Pane
  1. Make my life easier by exposing properties to know docked / undocked pane's location (left and bottom) without having to use API GetWindowsRect and GetClientRect. Why have to use an api call and extra coding when you can make my life (and others) easier (isn't that the point of third party controls). Doesn't the pane already know where it's docked and can't you easily expose this information. Issue #25083

Recent File List
    1. I am moving from another MRU component that had Key, Caption, Icon, and Value properties that I could set. In my case, I need to display to the user a friendly path, but keep the full path plus some server related info (i.e. xyz;myserver:3312;blah\blah\blah.bla) as we're dealing with items not just directly on the file system or UNC. Issue #25084

      I find that RecentFileList is EXTREMELY limited. Can you please add support for:
      • Caption (what is displayed to user)
      • Icon (ability to set/change the icon shown)
      • Key (a unique key that can be searched on)
      • Value (not shown to user but allows to store info like my example above so I can retrieve the item from the location: xyz;myserver:3312;blah\blah\blah.bla)
    1. There appears to be a limit of only showing items numbered through 9?? Even if you set the maxsize property beyond 9. WHY? By the way, this has been reported multiple times in the forums for a long while without being addressed. Issue #25084

    I'm all in on the SyntaxEdit control too!

    I badly need "Drag & Drop" for my XAML editor!!!!

    Add to the list...

    Full documentation for the Schema/Lexicon (SCHCLASS) files.
    Cover all the expressions in a lexClass with real examples & document how the intellisense menu
    is linked in.

    I mean does anyone really know if ParseOnScreen = 1 works?

    Thanks,

    Dear Kirk,

        First of all, I would like to congratule you for let us know the product road map. Transparency is always a good choice. Thank you very much. Clap

        My main open issue is to get smooth scrolling in Report control to allow me to see records being bigger in dimension than the control itself:

    http://forum.codejock.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=13423&KW=smooth&title=smooth-vertical-scrolling
    http://forum.codejock.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=8862&KW=

        Please, this issue was claimed several years ago without any result. It should add a big value to the control.

        Kind regards,

    Francisco José Sen

    The report control doesn't know whether you are loading data or not. You need to set the cursor on your own.

    But I agree that a loading animation that can be displayed on top of the report control would be nice.

    ReportControl.SetBusy(TRUE);
    // Load data
    ReportControl.SetBusy(FALSE);

    Please fix differences in Visual Studio 2008 theme/appearance implementation to the original Microsoft one.
    These are:

    - MDI workspace borders
    - Workspace tab colors
    - Docking Pane tabs appearance

    Can you please implement the possibility to fill the MDI tab header workspace background with the color from used menu/toolbar colors independently from which workspace TabAppearanceStyle is used ?

    Example:
    I use Visual Studio 2008 appearance for CommandBars and want to use tabbed workspace tabs styled like Visual Studio 2005 ! Now the tab background doesn't look good, because it's colored other than the CommandBars...

    Hello Tobi,

    I think we should differentiate between "nice to have" and crucial features.
    There have been lots of requests for the Report Control which are - in my opinion - way more important than some effects or 100% match of Microsoft themes.

    For example the missing grid functionality (fixed columns etc.) of the Report Control is a show stopper for me, while other features I would like to have are not crucial.

    So I think we should priorize our requests carefully.

    Hi ABuenger,

    I totally agree with you ! But I'm sure nearly every developer has other demands of new features. And as Kirk wrote in the initial post I just went through my open-points list and posted all my open issues, requirements and wishes !
    Due to I'm sure CJ will not implement all the posted topics in the next release, I just want them not to get lost ...

    Sure, but please don't tell me that you can't ship your next release without the blend effects Wink
    So in order to help CJ to priorize the requests please mark them as low or high priority.

    I've also posted many chart requirements and in fairness to other customers I've marked many as low priority.

    I really hope White+Scenic skins are included in the next release.

    It is awkward to have a black ribbon + black skin for dialogs, and then white ribbon with native dialogs. It feels incomplete :(

    Since first possible day is next monday ( october, 4) and you probably close the release on friday to build for monday 11th, does it make sense to have 3..4 days for testing and patching ?

    >after which we will release Chart as an individual package with source code.
    I do not understand if we will have access to this package (with source code) or source will be released to subribers on november, 8th

    > When Toolkit Pro / Suite Pro 14.0 beta is introduced (sometime after October 11th) any new features or enhancements to the chart will then be included
    You mean toolkit in source and chard as lib or both without source ?

    At least I am not the only one who doesn't really understand what Kirk is saying.

    I was expecting a release of the Chart control complete with source no later than October 11th.

    Good to hear the road map news.

    Can we hope that bug fixing gets a higher priority in future than new features (as suggested by a few of us in recent weeks in this Forum)

    And please clean up the mess in XTPReportControl.cpp. Looked at some parts of the code today and... urk! Oleg or Mario, I'll buy you a beer if you spend a couple of hours refactoring you-kno-which parts of the code :)

    Hello all, the store is still not completely updated.  In the mean time you (existing customers) can call sales and they will manually set you up with a download! Smile  First time customers can simply order directly from the store.

    Many requests are listed in the post
    SuiteControls TODO

    However the MAIN request by me concering the CLSID of all SuiteControl controls.
    The problem is that each new version will overwrite registration of existing one, because
    the CLSID still the same.

    But i don't want upgrade ALL my projects, because this force me to update all my programs installed for all my customers. Angry
    I will decide myself the time to upgrade a sigle project.

    Form me is a BIG problem. I will explain better the problem:
    CommandBars.ocx version 13.3.0 and 13.4.0 are the same CLSID:

    Object = "{555E8FCC-830E-45CC-AF00-A012D5AE7451}#13.3#0"; "CommandBars.ocx"
    Object = "{555E8FCC-830E-45CC-AF00-A012D5AE7451}#13.4#0"; "CommandBars.ocx"

    Now, due to isn't possible to have two controls registered with same CLSID , only one version can be used.

    Of course, latest version is the best, but (again) we can't immediately:
    - update all projects (need to make TESTs, before upgrade)
    - after, update all programs installation
    - last, update all my programs to all my customers

    Each OCX release should have a unique CLSID, so we can use more than one version of the same OCX.

    Thank.

    We also just released 13.4.2.  This is a maintenance and support release that addresses some outstanding issues that were not addressed with 13.4.1. This version also ensures compatibility with the newly released Xtreme Chart Pro.

    Each OCX has a unique GUID.

    To use multiple versions on your development machine simply run the COM Registrator utility for the version you want, then open your project and work with that version.

    End users will not be effected, you can have multiple versions running on the same machine and the program will use the correct OCX.

    Problem is if we change CLSID then you would have to update that in all your projects when it comes time to upgrade.  With that point the majority of customers actually prefer the CLSID is not changed.

    Of course... LOL
    But I intend that EACH version of single OCX should be use a different GUID, so we can use different versions simultaneously. This is a bit different...

    Sorry, but this give me a limit the work to with only ONE version at time.
    Because, as already write, it's impossible work with two differente versions which use same GUID.
    Therefore, I can't use two projects on the same time if one use 13.3 and the other use 13.4.

    Just now! have encountered this problem:
    Normally use v.13.4.
    1 - I have re-registed v.13.3 with it Registrator.exe to work in a project (A) which use v.13.3.
    2 - after 1 hour, a customer call me for a little problem with a different project (B), which use v.13.4.
    3 - I open the project (B) to correct the problem (project A still open!)
    4 - solved the problem, compile the project B and update the exe to the customer (via remote connection).
    5 - few minutes after updating, customer re-call me that the project don't run anymore, it get a error about invalid license. Ouch
    6 - then I check the project B which use 13.4, and I see that has been compiled with 13.3 version!
    Please note che EACH file contains the correct reference:
    Project:
    Object={A8E5842E-102B-4289-9D57-3B3F5B5E15D3}#13.4#0; Codejock.Controls.v13.4.0.ocx
    Forms:
    Object = "{A8E5842E-102B-4289-9D57-3B3F5B5E15D3}#13.4#0"; "Codejock.Controls.v13.4.0.ocx"

    7 - after I was forced to re-registered v.13.4, then compiled again the project, update again to the customers. Now the project work correctly.

    Very sorry, SuperMario, but I don't think to be a good way to work! Angry

    I don't think, because I dont' understand where is the convenience to register continually from the version to other one, due to I can't use two different versions simultaneously.

    About upgrades:
    I don't understand where is the problem. Shocked

    If the project use the same version, i.e. 13.3, which use unique CLSID, when it comes time to upgrade nothing of components will update, only exe will update (or other files as nedd).

    If I update the project with a new OCX version, then independently of the OCX GUID (if identical or not) I must distribute the new OCX version, too.

    Thank.

    @gibra
    This was a "confirmed bug" and was reportet AND fixed with v13.4.1
    See the "Release Notes": "Important - 13.4 version used same GUIDs as 13.3.1, Please update to 13.4.1"

    So with v13.4.1 you have again unique GUIDS! Only v13.4 and v13.3.x has the same ones

    @SuperMario
    I hope v13.4.2 has also different GUIDS to v13.4.1 Smile

    Undo/Redo is not a feature of a control, it's a feature of your document / app.

    I would recommend to read about the memento pattern and how to implement it in an MFC application on Codeproject.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memento_pattern

    The memento pattern makes a complete copy of the document. That's not always sufficient, in that case you need to use the command pattern.

    Unfortunately isn't. Cry

    GUID of v13.4.2 are the same of v13.4.0. Angry

    All Samples project installed with SuiteControls 13.4.2 contains:
    Object={79EB16A5-917F-4145-AB5F-D3AEA60612D8}#13.4#0; Calendar.ocx

    That is the same of v13.3.0Angry

    Guys, we change the GUID as stated before.  I already mentioned all that is needed is to register the version needed before you open your project.  The only exception was the version shown in the release notes.

    For example, you can have BOTH 13.41 AND 13.42 installed.  Project A uses 13.41, Project B used 13.42.  To use Project A simply run the COM Registrator for 13.41, then open project A.  To use Project B simply run the COM registrator for 13.42, then open project B.

    This only effect the developer, client machines can run apps with many different versions installed.

    So the only draw back is you can work on one project at a time if they use different versions.

    @SuperMario
    Thank you, I had not ckecked if GUIDS are the same or not (because I don't have installed 13.4.0).
    Will like to do it today.

    @znakeeye
    The problem is another.
    Suppose you sell your application. The user uses yet another software compiled with CodeJock components - a version step older or newer. Then one of the two applications would no longer work or simply crash when not functions. This was probably the reason why CodeJock had called it "Important".
    BTW: Patching isn't possible because you break the "digital signatur". You would provoke your virus scanner LOL and enter the DLL hell! Evil Smile

    Sorry, but you are wrong!

    I've tested the situation now. And gibra has right.
    You can develop for example with v13.0.0 and 13.1.0 and 13.2.0 and 13.2.1 ON THE SAME MACHINE to the same TIME (without using COM registrator again and again and again and again...!!!)

    BUT you can't develop with 13.3.0 and 13.1.0 and 13.4.0 on the same machine without always calling COM regsitrator again again again... Confused !!!

    OK, this problem was fixed with 13.4.1 - BUT with 13.4.2 the problem is back again! You can't develop for example with 13.4.1 and 13.4.2 without starting the COM regsitrator!

    Therefore you have (you MUST!) always to remember as a developer to toggle. You forget it one time, your customers will thank you! Thumbs Down

    Also:

    I work with dozens of projects.
    Before to open a project I am forced to remember the version uses?
    How can I remember for each of them which version uses?
    Then I must write me a list of all project with related version numbers?
    I can only work with one project at time?

    This is absolutely absurd!!!

    The GUID's are different but not the CLSID's. If Codejock changes all the CLSID's too, then upgrading to a new version will be a hassle as your project wouldn't recognize the new control. Then you'd have to manually edit all files in notepad to update the CLSID's when you want to upgrade.

    OK, but why not have the problems such as with 13.1.0 and 13.2.0? Test it yourself and you'll see!
    So there is something strange.

    Monday 8 version 14.10 will be released (no changes where published, so I think it's still correct)

    Friday 5 is last day before rebuild, upload, and so on

    2..3 days for final check, regression test, etc. - so

    Tuesday 2 is last day to fix bugs reported by beta testers..

    If I'm not wrong in my agenda we have (given that tomorrow RC build is available) 5..6 working days to install, test and submit problems..

    Latest beta had 3 releases and lasts than 3 months, options:

    A) you have internally tested all code and you are sure it's rock solid

    B) there are few changes (except for chart) so that beta is just for test merging versions

    C) we can expect a patch release within 2..3 weeks

    D) you are about to delay this release

    More information will be highly appreciated.

    I think they unify it in Ver.15.0 to be a best way. Because they already released a totally different Ver.14.0β once several months ago.

    Hi,
    Actually we are right on track with the versioning we have been using for years.  Maybe it is other product vendors trying to catch up to us? LOL

    2006 - v10
    2007 - v11
    2008 - v12
    2009 - v13
    2010 - v14
    2011 - v15

    Each "major" version came out for the corresponding year.
