I am not sure where to pose this question and posed this in the Poll section, but thought it might not be appropriate to post there...

I am in the process of learning VS C++ and bought VS 6 Pro a couple of years ago.  I never got around to learning C++, up until now.

Should I consider getting Visual Studio 2005 Pro and doing away with my VS 6.0 Pro?  I've found some minor bugs in VS6, primarily GetLine(),  and wonder if I really need to update to VS 2005.  Note: I would rather take the funds from updating and get the CodeJock Xtreme ToolkitPro instead, BUT, if VS 2005 is a MUST Get upgrade, then I have no choice.

Is VS 2005 that much better then VS 6.0?  Am I missing something  using VS6 and will I have problems compiling CJ Xtreme TkPRO if I continue using VS6 Pro?

Any advice is appreciated...

Thanks in advance for fielding my question,
Dennis

Hello,

I like compiler from vc6. it creates smaller code you don't need deliver additional mfc/msvcrt from vc2005. Only one reason to update is features of IDE. but WndTabs+Visual Assist  make IDE from vc6 as good.

Think if you just start learning, you can work with vc6 without problems.

but Anyway toolkit will work both with vc6 and vc2005 :)

Thank you Oleg, I appreciate your prompt response... I home school, so buying a new platform is pretty pricey and I would rather buy programming tools rather than upgrade my IDE.  I need to learn C++ so I can teach my son programming skills.  I want to prepare him for a future software career and I will eventually get the CodeJock tookit.

Thanks again,
Dennis
