    Posted: 31 May 2013 at 1:51pm
Hello Everyone,

We are very close to releasing version 16.2 for ActiveX COM, some of the new things you will see are the new Office 2013 theme, Visual Studio 2012 theme and Flowgraph Control.

Note we will also release an update for MFC which will be mainly fixes to 16.1.

Here is a sneak peek of the COM samples:

Just curious, but why does it take so long to create the ActiveX version? Is it because you wait for the first bugs and comments you get from the Toolkit pro users?

16.2 appears to be released? I downloaded and am trying it out, but I haven't seen an official announcement, so is it ready for distribution?

Looks good so far, BTW.

WARNING! Be careful with 16.2 if you use the following properties of the ReportControl, there appears to be regressions:

PaintManager.ForceDynamicMarkupForCell = True
    Setting Metrics.Text with markup strings in BeforeDrawRow event no longer displays as markup

PaintManager.SetPreviewIndent
    Indent no longer honoured unless called *AFTER* .Populate method (used to work when called before .Populate).

PaintManager.ShadeSortColumn=False
    Sorted columns *always* shaded unless called *AFTER* .Populate method (used to work when called before .Populate).

I've opened support tickets, but I wanted to warn fellow users.

It looks like a other PaintManager properties don't take effect until after Populate is called (which wasn't an issue pre-16.2). Just found that GroupRowTextBold fails now.

One more note: The PaintManager problems only seem to be a problem if the ReportControl.PaintManager.ColumnStyle = xtpColumnResource

Workaround for the PaintManager regressions:

First call .PaintManager.ColumnStyle = xtpColumnResource
Then call .Populate
Then call .PaintManager.<Other Properties you want to set>
Then call .Populate again.

Hi,
Please see the online version of the release notes, there is also important notes for commandbars:

IMPORTANT: The way the new themes work the paintmanager settings are reset when a theme is set. Because of this you will need to set any paintmanager settings AFTER you set the theme and or column style. Each theme is derived from the paintmanager so when a new theme is set the old settings will be lost.

16.2.0 looks good, except for the poxy date picker control which is STILL just a wrapper around the ancient Windows Common Controls version that's been with us almost unchanged since Windows 3.1... No way can anyone put that unthemed piece of c**p onto a modern form with everything else themed! Please CodeJock, when will you bring out a themed date picker?

Because this is NOT a date picker at all but a month-view calendar.

It can be made to look like one.  See the DatePicker sample.  Also do you add a manifest and run the exe?

Yes, it can be made to look like one - if you do the manifest bit (which I note there doesn't seem to be any significant documentation on in anything CodeJock supplies) and write a bunch of code to perform the same actions, using a combobox and a calendar date picker, that a proper control would do behind the scenes... and then there's that really annoying flash as the combo drops its list down and closes it back up again when you close the picker portion... The fact that a knowledgeable developer can hack something together that'll roughly do the job doesn't address my point, which is how come we have to jump through all these hoops in the first place? Why bother including the Suite Date Picker at all when it's actually the same thing Microsoft have been supplying for a dozen years or more? Why is this control the only one that isn't done in a modern style? We should be able to select it from the toolbox, plonk it on a form, set a couple of properties and move on, instead of hand-coding all the stuff that makes it work and mucking around with InitCommonControls and Manifest files.

End of rant... please just do the job properly for the next release and you'll make us happy!
