Text disappears when manifest present...

   I have a tab control with vertical tabs and when I added a manifest file for XP to my project, all the text disappeared from the tabs.  I can't seem to make it come back, unless I get rid of the manifest.  Of course, that makes the dialog boxes in my app look like W2K and not XP.
Any ideas?
