Sure, you can choose "&File" to get the Alt+F key working. What happens if you choose "MyApp Button"? No 'F' there... and from Ribbon guidelines we can conclude this:
 
"Assign F to the Application button. This assignment is used because of the Application button's similarity to the traditional File menu."
