CXtPRecentFileList not saving pin state....

I have an MRU list based on CXtPRecentFileList on a backstage page.  It doesn't save the state of the pins.  I can edit the registry and add the PinnedX values and the pins are restored properly, but pushing the pins themselves doesn't seem to do anything to save the state. 
Anybody have any ideas?
