It seems like in v13.1 there is a small bug in the Unicode version of the control !
When I add the control to a form and start it, the cursor is placed in line 1, column 1 but no line number is displayed. Doing exactly the same with non unicode version shows the line number ... |

Your right - unicoded version had minor bug in ocx SetText function -
Please get fresh upgrade here -
unrar it on same place your official 13.1 unicoded ocx located.
Rename the same way as official filename use
No need to re-registrate as you already had it
It show line numbers in my test with this fresh unicode ocx
You can also use 13.1 function - e.g.
SyntaxEdit.LineNumbersFormat "%02d"
or
SyntaxEdit.LineNumbersFormat "%2d"
see diffs  The small VB sample with new non-file-based mode:
