In case anyone hasn't seen it, screenshots and an overview of Office 12, with a totally new UI:
http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/features/2005/sep05/09-13 OfficeUI.mspx and, apparently, there will be no option to switch to the "classic" UI. (i.e. the UI with menus and toolbars). After the initial surprise of no menus, I'd say it looks really slick (visually). I'll reserve judgement on usability until I try it using it for a while - keeping in mind that this is the same idea factory that produced "Mr. Paperclip" and menu items that disappear when you only use them occasionally. Can I assume the new Office 12 look will make it into version 9.71?  (just kidding) Warren |

It does look really slick, although I don't know that it will make sense for
smaller applications with fewer commands. They will have a lot of empty space in their tab areas! Office 12 is still a work in progress. But I bet you're right, now we know the reason for the delay on 9.71! |

One think that I've want as a "stadard" for many years, and what they've finally added to Office 12 is "Super Tooltips":
