Hello,

As you know, Windows 7 offers now its built-in Ribbon Framework, see:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/ee658251.aspx

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd742865(VS.85).aspx

What is Codejock opinion regarding this framework, specifically are there any plans for Toolkit to use that framework instead of custom implementation in the future.

It is interesting that the use of Windows Ribbon Framework does not require you to license office UI see: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/office/aa973809.aspx

Any comments?

Regards,

Tomasz

Hi,

Its always good to have choice :)  It looks good - main limitation that its only supports Windows 7 and allow only System theme. so we don't have plans to migrate to it.

Hi,

there is a good article about the Windows 7 Ribbon on Codeproject:

http://www.codeproject.com/KB/vista/SevenGoodiesHelloRibbon.aspx

The article also shows the disadvantage of this implementation, it doesn't integrate well with MFC applications.

And as Oleg has already pointed out it only has a System theme, no Office themes.

Not even MFC in VS2010 supports this Ribbon.

Thank you both for the answers. One must love how Microsoft is reinventing the wheel several times :-) each time in a different way (office, WPF, MFC, and Win7 implementations)
