For a limited time, we want to offer any developers in this forum a free license for our WorkCentrics time tracking software, including the cj people, in return for a short/long/anything critique  of what we're trying to do, please contact me directly at johnson@milehi.com.

The product not only helps you track the details of your time, but also links your time to your Outlook tasks, appointments, email and notes, so can be a handy tool in a development environment.  Extensive use of the cj controls.  Download from www.workcentrics.com.

Cheers,

Dan Johnson

Sounds interesting...

A nice feature which your customers should love could be a view of their work items in a familiar Outlook style using our Calendar control

The question has already come up...

We used a cj 10.1.1 merge module with our release.  Installshield is not going to overwrite newer files, correct?  Anybody at cj dealt with this before?

Even if the newer files are not overwritten, be aware that we almost always need to tweak the code a bit after any new cj release.   If possible, try installing to a non-development machine without 10.2.1 or greater on it.

Actually Serge, the program currently lets you automatically write all time card data to an Outlook calendar folder where desired.  In addition, you can have predefined text automatically inserted in the subject and body fields of the related appointments items.  Particularly in an MS Exchange organization, this can be an awesome management tool.

We have been thinking about giving user's the option of entering their time using the cj calendar control, so we're working on the details of how to implement.  One of the issues is whether the average user has the skills to figure out how to select a time period using an Outlook type calendar.  We're not sure many can...

Thanks for the feedback!

Dan

NOTE: Another developer has already gotten back to me.  He installed on a 10.3.1 machine without any problems.

Are developers really the right audience for this kind of software? My first impression is that it is a mix of MS Project and SAP.

This app started out a few years ago as a solution for service professionals who charge for their time by the hour (accountants, lawyers, etc).

The BIG surprise since then has been that the majority of those who purchase the app have been in non-billing types of industries...sales people, real estate developers (??) and yes, developers.  These "non-traditional" types of service providers generally have a need to track what their doing with their time, and particularly like to be able to associate their time with all the info they have in Outlook.

The best example: Harley-Davidson was looking for a way to track what their national sales force was doing (making sure they we're making a certain number of visits per day, pushing the right products to the local stores, etc).  Although we didn't end up getting that one (our balance sheet = $759, vs. Sales Logix balance sheet = $54,234,890), we were one of only two companies invited to the final presentation.  So, lots of companies need an efficient way to track what their employees are doing with their time (as opposed to tracking it merely for payroll puposes).

I digress..
