Does anyone have an example of how to create, use, and save a custom property for an event?

How can I associate a custom icon to my custom property?

And can I display "custom text" next to the "custom icon" in the Calendar view for the event? (Similar to how there can be text next to the "key" icon for private events?)

Any help would be greatly appreciated! (I'm using C#, but code examples in any language would be really helpful)
