not bad at all but what about alpha channal icons? would look greater with greater looking icons, I know that not the main part of a application, it have to do what it's have to do first but since you asking to improve interface then the look and feel is the important part here. also allow the user to personnalize the interface event for the wors it the best way a application get users to use it! But as I said "not bad at all"
 
some customizations possibles for the user is the ability to add,remove functions from the view (buttons in ribbon and it's possible using codejock controls, then allow user to change interface color like aqua, blue, black  like say Office 2007 in a similar way so user can understand quickly you application.
