I mentioned it in another thread already. But from my observations this is the problem with CURIER font (BITMAP) that does not work correctly with ClearType. If you select Courier New (True Type) the problem with character truncation goes away.
So I think it is really Microsoft problem.

Just ran the MDI Text Editor sample (v11.1.0 according to the about dialog) and opened EditConfig\Schemas\_cpp.schclass.

I immediately noticed two quite severe drawing bugs:
1) If a word is bold or italic, the last character is obscured.
2) If a word is bold, any selection causes the word to move.
3) If the background color is set on a character, the caret is displayed when it goes away.
 
These bugs really make the control unusable. See the screenshow below. Have you even tested the control?
