I'm sureit wouldn't matter to obtain any logs of his IP address anyway.

In all fairness, I do think the documentation is improving, but it mustbe a daunting task given the sheer volume of code that exists in thelibrary. The docking pane classes seem difficult to understandand the comments offer no additional help, which was what I was workingwith recently, but I just looked at CXTButton and CXTThemeManager andthe comments there are somewhat helpful, as they should be. I'msure, given enough time, the rest of the comments across the code willbe changed to have more use.

I didn't use the help file in any way, the source code and the class layout are well designed. I spent some time with the debugger and tried to understand the working model of the Toolkit.

At the beginning (I used another library before) I had some questions how I can achieve some things with the Toolkit and all my support calls (via eMail) are answered.

    Author: Ark42
Subject: 552
Posted: 08 May 2004 at 12:01pm

I think you are completely missing the point here. Lets pretendfor a minute that the source code was easy to dig through, that rightclicking and picking "Go To Definition Of ..." actually lead to a pieceof code with a useful comment next to it, and that the entiredocumentation was very well done and that there were 100s of tutorialsas well.

Alright, now myself, and many others, have paid for a year of freeupgrades and support. That support includes phone support, emailsupport, and forums support. Paying this yearly fee shouldentitle us to priority responses to our questions so that we may betterunderstand a very complex library and more quickly use it. Thepoint is, the people buying the library aren't nearly familiar with itas the people who are writing it, and we are paying money to have thosepeople help us understand it. There is no need to start bashingpeople here. There are no stupid questions. If multiple peopleask the same seemingly easy questions, that does not mean those peopleare all being lazy or can't dig though the code. It means peopleunfamiliar with the code have a hard time understanding the purpose ofparts of it.

Quite honestly, adding lots of new features to the library is not inmost of our best interests. Fixing bugs does not count as newfeatures of course. I would be perfectly happy staying with theoriginal v8.60 feature set, provided that I could get bugs fixed andunderstood how to use all the features.

I don't really believe that a few questions that may be seeminglystupid and trivial to the codejock developers is going to slow themdown from adding features or fixing bugs. As an example, theinstaller software I use Inno Setup, which is a completely free program, has a great help file that explainsall of its complicated features very well. On top of that, thesingle author of the program provides free support via a newsgroup, that gets over 50 new posts every day, yet he still manages to answerthem all, many times within a couple hours, all while constantly fixingbugs and adding new features. Now many of the questions receivedon the forum are in fact answered in that great help file, but peoplepost answers pointing people to the appropriate help file section, andwhen a question is completely offtopic and not something an installerwould even do, there is at least an answer to the post letting theperson know that somebody at least read their question and they willhave to look elsewhere for help.

With codejock, the documenation file is very useless. It seemsentirely generated from comments in the source code, which are 95% truestatements that have no actual meaning to them. Occasionally Isee the words "used internally" and thus try to ignore that class andfind another, but otherwise I don't use the documentation at all. There is a smaller tutorial file, that is actually very well done, andcovers some of the basic topics. Beyond the tutorial, I resort tolooking at the samples, and I don't see a particular feature in any ofthe samples, sometimes I wonder if its something that the library cando, but was just not included in the sample, or if its simply not afeature yet.

Now, despite all of the posts, and me reaching "Groupie" statusalready, I'm not angry with codejock. The product works very welland looks very nice, and I am able to continue developing myapplication despite a couple minor bugs here and there. I do wishcodejock would do something to differentiate between people whocontinue to pay the yearly support fee and people who are askingquestions while not paying. I also wish they would at the veryleast post replies to questions sooner saying "we will look into this"or "this is not something we can help you with". Overall theproduct is very good and the support does happen, sometimes just alittle later on.
