I want to answer my own question here:

Well, the CXTListCtrl itself works flawlessly in virtual mode.. the only problem is SetRowColor method invoking RedrawControl(if I recall correctly - I am not on my devel machine now). no, don't think so. use standard CListCtrl instead.
