ok, I manage to get it work by attaching the panes just after loading the layout. The other problem I had with this approach, which I also got it to work, is that I needed the main view (SDI application) to initialise information for the childs, but when I was doing the attach in CMainFrame::OnCreate the view is not available, So I did it in view::OnInitialUpdate.

If you think there is a better way let me know, seems to be working fine now.

Is there a way to attach a pane to its child before it is made visible ?

I am using layouts to save/restore command bars. When command bars are grouped (tabed) they are not made visible when the layout is loaded, only the one that was active. I need to receive some notification of the creation of the pane so I can attach it to its child even if its not visible. How can this be done ?
