take a look at the GUI samples, in particular

GUI_WhidbeyD, GUI_VisualStudio7d, these have the features you are looking for,

I have an app that has multiple panes, each with their ownfunctionality.  When all of the panes are open, I have a tab baracross the top.  One of the panes has 2 frames within the pane --the frame on the left is a Task Panel, the frame on the right is acustom control that draws stuff.  Is this similar to what you'reattempting?  If so, I can give you skeleton code to show what Idid.

Has anyone put together a program that uses a task panel on the left  and tabs in the main workspace?
Im having some issues trying to accomplish this and would like a briefsummary of how you went about it... if you would be willing to toss mesome sample code that would be an extra bonus.

Don't hesistate to post, I am willing to experiment with any idea.
