move mouse over item 1. Press and hold left mouse button. Item 1 shows selected

move mouse over item 2. Release left button. Selection changes to item 2.

no ctrl or shift keys held.

This is incorrect behaviour. It causes problems when auto-scroll used. If you try to click select last visible item, it ends up selecting the one it scrolls to instead... which is most annoying.
