Yes, guess you are right. Gallery was first designed to use with popups as most of Office galleries. Playing around with the Ribbon for the first time, - and I think it is great :-)
 
However when using the xtpControlComboBox for e.g. font sizes it notifies the parent through the XTP_GN_PREVIEWCHANGE and as xtpControlGallery during previews (as expected).
But when selected I found that it was using ON_XTP_EXECUTE with the control type xtpControlComboBox instead as xtpControlGallery?
 
Not a big problem, but design wise a little strange.
