Okay, I'm assuming that this is only possible with the actual combo box control not the ones created through the commandbars. See SuiteControls sample + Markup tab. with markup you can format Combo items.

Is there anyway to get a "Custom" combobox in either the commandbars or suite controls? Maybe something similar to firefox's "awesome bar"?
