oh.. this bubble.. :)
 
There is trick - if you have image with Width/height > 32 it wil be used instead.
 
So just resize your image a little.

In the ribbon theme, a bubble is drawn under my icon in the top leftcorner.  But I need to get rid of the bubble behind my icon for logobranding reasons. What is the proper, blessed way of doing this please?
