I get 2 CalendarCaptionBars after switching to timeline and back...
using Active-X Version 13.4.0.0

Does it do that if you put the calendar control in a fresh vb6 application? I'd try it but we've not moved to 13.4 yet

Try this:
Calendar.Object.HideCaptionBar = True

yes, in an empty project with only CalendarControl and CalendarCaptionBar it is still the same! 
Checking "Timeline mode" and uncheck again gives this result...
