Normal edit controls allow for a "single line" mode. ("Want return" and "Multiline" settings when using the dialog editor in Visual Studio).

Is there a way of making the syntax editor behave in the same way?

You mean: "Want return flag" and "Multiline flag" as FALSE in single line mode case? Try to derive your class and overwrite reaction on new line command in code and UI

I think you can also use control as is and make on-fly modifications as app reaction on notifications - if you find Cr or Cr-Lf - change it to say Space and you will have single line mode

Just unsual request - single line mode for source editor?
