I'm looking for software that takes nice animated screen shots of controls for use in help documentation. I've noticed the new Toolbox webpages on this site are sporting animated GIFs, but I can only find software that records in AVI. Any suggestions?

http://www.techsmith.com/products/snagit/default.asp - Snagit to record AVI (I think you can get windows medi player to do this, but really low quality).  You also can look at BB FlashBack (More Expensive) which does a nice job.
http://www.moviegear.com/ - Movie Gear to edit AVI (remove frames, reduce colors, etc...)

There might be better things out there, these some I have found easy to use and not too pricey.

Excellent. I had already tried Snagit, but I didn't think to look for an AVI to GIF utility. Tunnel vision. Thanks for the information.
