How to properly rearrange categories?

   Hello all,

Can someone tell me what if there's a proper way to rearrange calendar categories? I've tried removing all from the collection and then adding them in order that I need them in, but that stuffs up existing appointments, since they change their categories. I've tried just updating the categories, keeping the same ID, but that also doesn't work.

So, how can one rearrange or modify categories while keeping existing calendar items as-is?
