It sounds like you are not saving the layout when exiting the application. Add a call to save the layout to your close/exit handler.

I have developed a MDI application and there are some DockinPane. I save the docking pane position to a file (xml). When I close the MDI document the position of Docking pane are saved: I reopen the document and the pane are in the savede position. But if I close the application the XML file is not changed but restarting the application and reopening the document the pane are on the left side. I don't understand why.

Could you indicate me an example?
