Add separator to Menu

   I am trying to add a separator to my menu.  I have tried such things as:

pControls->Add(xtpControlTypeButton,ID_SEPARATOR)

I have also tried creating a CMenu, appending a Separator to it, then calling:

pControls->AddMenuitem(pMenu,0)

Neither have worked.  How do I append a separator to my menu?  Either through use of AddMenuItem or Add functions?
